Tremblant Snowboard/Ski Trip

Let us do the Driving!

Want to get in some serious riding this year, but don't feel like driving all the way to Mt Tremblant yourself?  This year's Mt Tremblant Ski and Snowboard Trip is just the thing! Departing 5pm, Friday February 6, and returning the night of Sunday, February 8, 2009, this trip gets you to the hill and accommodations for two full days of riding, for just  $250/person. (*Lift passes and rental fees are not included.)

We'll be riding to the hill in style, thanks to Coach Canada's fully furnished buses, including plenty of separate luggage space, onboard washroom facilities, and multimedia services.  Not only will you not have to worry about dozing off behind the wheel after a long day, but we can also guarantee the bus will be all warmed up by the time you step inside.  The only ice-scraping will be Junior's misadventure down the Expert run.

Our overnight hosts will be Comfort Inn and Suites, Ville Mt Tremblant, a short shuttle ride from the resort.  Rooming is based on 4-person occupancy, with two Queen-sized beds.  Cots are available from the front desk.  Single and double-occupancy are available for an additional $150 and $40, respectively. Spaces are limited and preferred partnering is available upon request.
Don't forget your bathing suit to soak in their hot tub. Mt. Tremblant

*Includes the bus ride there and your lift pass; rentals and food are not

Why Stone Grind My Skis?

Stone Grind SkisBases that are "sealed" or "burned" due to oxidization or overheating will not accept wax no matter how much you try.
Bases that are scratched or rilled will be slow...think driving with the parking brakes on.
Skiing on poorly prepared bases is the same as trying to skate with dull blades or biking with flat tires

What makes a ski glide?
The glide of a ski is a combination of the proper flex in relation to the skiers weight and skiing style, the snow surface and finally the base structure and wax.  Base structure is critical to reducing the friction between the ski and the snow.  Proper waxing allows you to get optimal glide.
The best flexed ski cannot glide or be waxed if the base is oxidized, sealed, scratched, or has lost all structure.

What does stone grinding do?
It will re-furbish your bases, taking only .03 to .05 mm away with a smooth and even pattern.  It will "open up" the bases to allow better wax absorption.  It removes any micro or larger scratches that cause resistance.  The stone adds an even "broken" structure pattern to the base to improve glide.  It will help flatten the ski for better overall surface and easier scraping.  Our basic grind and wax costs $49.99 (remember you skis will glide like new!).

We can also:
Repair minor or major scatches
Clean and hot wax your skis.
Test the flex and mark the grip zone or "wax pocket"

Drop by with your skis for a free estimate and advice.
Unfortunately, we can only grind waxable classic skis and skate skis.  Waxless skis or fish scale skis can't be reground.

Trainer Season is here.

Riding on your trainer can be mind numbing and have minimal training effect or it can be stimulating and get you to spring in great shape.  There is no need to log huge hours on a trainer.  Trainer rides are best kept short and focused.  The goals should be to improve your pedaling style through drills to increase efficiency and cadence and to improve your threshold power.  You can work on general aerobic fitness by Nordic skiing, running, snowshoeing or some other fun outdoor activity.  No need to log a 3 hour trainer ride.

Wild Rock carries a complete selection of trainers starting at $249, DVD's and accesories.

Here are a couple of tips to make your experience better.

1.    Make sure tires are well inflated to their maximum.  Read the recommendation on the side of the tire and check weekly.  Soft tires burn, wear out and generally don't last.

2.    Rear wheel pick up computers keep track of your speed and distance.

3.    Stave off boredom through cycling workout DVDs

4.    Use structured workouts to make time pass and gain results.

5.    Intensity is your friend.

6.    Use a specialty trainer tire as they last a long time and don't spray black rubber on your carpet like your normal tire might.

7.    Get yourself a fan to avoid overheating

Suggested workouts:

Isolated Leg Training (ILT) on trainer
After warm-up, alternate 20-60 seconds with 1 leg pedalling and the other on a chair. Get a total of 7-10 minutes of ILT on each leg in workout. Alternate legs as you feel like it. Comfortably high cadence. Focus on eliminating dead spot at top of stroke by pushing toes forward in shoes at top.

High Intensity Intervals
Warm up 10 minutes. Intervals are 30 seconds long with 30 seconds recoveries. Smoothly accelerate for 30 seconds and then back off for 30 seconds. Don't coast just pedal easily on recoveries. Do 2 sets of 20x30 sec. intervals with 5 minutes between sets. 10 minute cool down.

Sustained Power Intervals
Your intervals should be slightly faster than your goal race pace/effort. Do NOT go as hard as you can for 4 minutes. By the end of the intervals you should be well into Zone 4 heart rate but not into Zone 5. The first few intervals will seem easy. The last few will get hard, as you won't have recovered from one to the next. Intervals are 4 minutes with 2-minute recoveries. Do a set of 3 x4 intervals then spin easy for 5 minutes. Repeat set. 10 minute cool down and repeat for a total of 6 intervals. For those of you who use power these are threashold or CP 30 intervals.

If you would like help with your trainer workouts Wild Rock offers programs to use at your home or a complete package with group workouts through their Bike Studio.  For information contact noel@wildrock.net.
