Kevin Callan's Book Launch

Kevin Callan has written a new book called "The Happy Camper, An Essential Guide to Life Outdoors." It is a departure from his other books. It does not describe canoe routes, it tells you how to be a happy camper, with a heavy dose of Kevin's humour, as always.

Join us on Tuesday March 22nd at 7 pm as Kevin launches his new book and shares slides, stories and laughter.

Preparing for Spring

There are a few things that you can count on in life. Wet weather in the spring is one of those things. With that in mind, we thought it would be a good idea to talk about taking care of your gear to ensure that you stay dry!

To waterproof footwear, make sure that you get the appropriate waterproofing for your type of footwear. There are different kinds depending on what they are made of. Be sure you clean the boot with water and a cloth or sponge. Check the instructions of your waterproofing solution, most allow you to put the solution on while your boots are still wet. Pay particular attention to seems and stitching. After a few minutes, wipe off the excess and allow to completely dry before applying the second coat. There may be a film left when dry, just wipe with a cloth and you are ready to go.

If your jacket or pants that used to be waterproof have been wetting out, there is no need to suffer! This means that it is time to redo the DWR (durable water repellancy). It is important to start with a clean garment so make sure you use Nikwax Tech Wash or a non-detergent cleaner. There are spray on or wash in solutions for rewaterproofing your outerwear. Make sure you read the label of the garment for washing and drying instructions and then read the label of the cleaner.

This may seem like a lot of steps but you will be dryer and happier when you...

GO OUT AND PLAY!
