KNSC is hosting its 5th annual Ski Enduro this Sunday, January 29th 2012. This event is open to skiers of all ages. For some it's a fun, friendly competition and for others it's a fun, fitness challenge. A great event at our local ski club - come out for a great day of skiing and a fantastic challenge!

Nordic Ski Lessons at Kawartha Nordic

Back for another season - The Wild Rock Ski Outpost!

For the second year Wild Rock has set up our

Ski Outpost at Kawartha Nordic!

The Ski Outpost will be up and running all season long - providing skiers with access to purchasing Day Passes, our full Rental Program of skate and classics skis, professional on-site ski waxing, and our ProShop to cater to all your ski needs!

January the trailer will be open 10am-4pm on Thursday and Friday and 9am-4pm on Saturday and Sunday.

The Ski Outpost will also serve as the site for

classic and skate ski lessons which are scheduled to start on Sun Jan.8th (conditions permitting). Classic lesson will be held in the morning and skate in the afternoon. Lessons start at 10:00am and 1:00 pm and run for approx 1.5 hrs.

Cost is $25.00/person + HST.

Participants can rent equipment at a reduced rate of $20.00 +HST /day.

Participants must be a member or have a valid trail pass ($15.00).

Wild Rock is offering hands-on Wax Clinics this winter! Clinics take place at the Wild Rock Ski Outpost at Kawartha Nordic.

Wax Clinics

We will offer Wax clinics Saturday at 9:00am for 1hr.

Clinics will be either glide or grip.

Max 8 participants

Cost is $10.00/person

Dates are as follows:

Jan 21st - Basic Grip Waxing

Jan 28th - Advanced Grip Waxing

Feb 11th - Advanced Glide Waxing

Long Live the Softshell!

WRO has a great selection of products to help get you outside this winter.

If you are one of those people who ventures out in the winter softshell is your friend. Whether you are walking, running, swooshing or sliding these are a great addition to your wardrobe. The basic premise for this clothing is that breathability and comfort are paramount.

Breathability means better moisture management and more comfort for you. These jackets and pants are very good at blocking wind, which wards off the cold. They are also stretchy to allow for easy of movement. Softshell comes in a variety of fits and weights to suit your exertion level. They will also fend off water but are not waterproof (as this would reduce breathability). Paired with the right baselayer you can be comfortable in all sorts of winter weather.

From Salomon we have the Superfast II jacket and pant are perfect for the high exertion athlete. For those who are not going so fast the Nova III jacket and pant offer excellent comfort with a light insulation. We also have a number of styles that are "in between" come on in and check it out.

Super stretchy mid layer from Swix and Craft are perfect to add warmth without weight and help transfer moisture. The tops keep you comfortable and can be used over a base layer and under a jacket or vest to add an extra layer of warmth.

The Swix Cirrus Tech top is warm stretchy and only weighs 200g!

The Craft PCX Thermal top is a great mid layer but can be used as outwear for high output activities or on warmer days.

Canada - World Class Skiers!

Canada takes on the world!

From the past success of Beckie Scott and Chandra Crawford the Canadian Nordic Team has vaulted to the top, becoming contenders with the worlds best skiers!

It is an exciting time to be a Canadian ski fan and watching Devon Kershaw, Alex Harvey, Ivan Babikov and Chandra Crawford compete and win medals against the great nordic nations!

Team Canada - The Future is Now
Recently the Canadian men took on the world at the annual Tour De Ski - a multistage ski race based on the format of the Tour de France.

Again Kershaw and Harvey competed side-by-side with Olympic and World Champions - with Kershaw finishing in an amazing fourth overall!

Harvey did not disappoint as well - winning a silver medal in the 20km classic event - at his young age he may become one of the best skiers in the world!

Future Olympians?

The Kawartha Nordic Athlete Development Program

The Kawartha Nordic Athlete Development Program is an athletic training program that offers a healthy, active, and outdoor sport experience for youth ages 13 and up.

The focus of the ADP is Nordic ski skill development and training in the context of Nordic ski racing.

Under the guidance of coaches Jon Grimwood and Mike Nevills the athletes meet and train once a week during the Autumn months of October and November and, depending on weather, in December. During the winter months skiers meet and train two to three times per week to develop nordic ski skills and train for a season of racing!

Members of the ADP program are a common sight on the ski trails of Kawartha Nordic - working hard to follow in the footsteps of our Canadian skiers - and having a great time doing it!
